15/07/2024

In the framework of the SbS OPEN DAYS, teachers attending the ESIA summer schools attended workshops for their professional development. The speakers discussed the application of living labs methodology in open schooling, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among students, educators, and societal actors to co-create solutions to real-life problems within a Green learning ecology. They highlighted the co-creation process, including goal setting, problem identification, and establishing a societal actor’s group. The workshops aimed to empower participants to bring positive change in schools and other learning spaces, enhancing learners’ problem-solving skills, collaboration abilities, and understanding of critical global and local issues. These issues include the relevance of science and technology, responsible research and innovation, social responsibility, and the needs of the research and industry sectors. These elements are crucial for learners to make informed decisions as citizens and in their future careers.

Additionally, the objective was to build leadership interventions for school heads and enhance teachers’ competences and skills. The aim was also to motivate teachers to adopt innovative teaching methods, subjects, and practices, enriching the curriculum to increase students’ interest in sustainability, environmental studies, science, the scientific process, and the impacts of climate change on everyday life

Finally, speakers debated with teachers and school heads on how to proceed with selecting a topic for their schools through a reflection workshop.
